Jenifer J. Foley and Julie M. Sheldon attended the 61st Annual Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) Conference in Boston June 5-8th, which focused on “Coping with Transition: Individual, Family, and Beyond.” Jenifer and Bettina Thomsen serve as Co-Presidents of the AFCC-NY Chapter.
The nearly 90 conference program sessions examined a wide range of topics, including substance use disorder, intimate partner violence, cross allegations of abuse and alienation, child sexual abuse in custody matters, stepfamily dynamics, mediation, LGBTQ+ families, and more. Discussion and education on these ever-evolving topics help the AFCC and its members to serve as catalysts for generating major reforms in the law, and help further AFCC-NY’s mission to improve the lives of children and families and their treatment within the court system.
